Preview: Arsenal v Manchester City

The top spot in the division is on the line when we face Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in the biggest match of the Premier League season thus far.

Following the weekend's results, there are only three points between the two teams as we look to snap a 10-match league losing streak to Pep Guardiola's club, defend our unbeaten home record this season, and stay atop the table.

City may have triumphed on each of their previous six visits to Emirates Stadium, but this season they travel to N5 having dropped their previous three away contests, and no side in history has ever won seven consecutive league games on their home field.

City is unexpectedly unreliable.

For a team that has built its reputation on using long winning streaks to propel them to titles, City has struggled to establish a run of form this season. Amazingly, they haven't yet won four straight league games all year.

Prior to the World Cup break, they suffered losses to Liverpool and Brentford after early season points losses to Newcastle United and Aston Villa. After finishing 2022 with a home draw against struggling Everton, they quickly tasted defeat in the Manchester derby.

When they defeated Tottenham Hotspur, Wolves, and then us in the FA Cup in January, it appeared as though a turning point had been reached. However, a loss to Spurs stopped their momentum once more before they defeated Aston Villa 3-0 on Sunday.

Talking tactics

Michael Cox wrote the following in the matchday program: In important games, Guardiola is infamous for pulling a surprise, so there will undoubtedly be a surprise in store for this matchup.

Due to their recent strong play, Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez appear to be the preferred alternatives at wide receiver in place of Phil Foden. Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne have a solid working relationship. Kevin De Bruyne frequently sends curled crosses from the inside-right position to the far post.

Rico Lewis seems to have received special instruction from his coach on how to play the unique full-back/central-midfielder position from the right, which at times effectively reduces City's back four to a back three with Lewis higher on the field.

For City this season, only Ederson has logged more Premier League minutes than Rodri, who often plays a holding midfield position. His powerful goal kicks allow City to target Haaland more directly than Guardiola typically does with his preferred possession style of play.

the managers' statements.

We'll have 15 guys on the field tomorrow, Arteta said. Every single ball, the energy and support they give us, and really anything else they do, shows how passionate [our supporters] are about the game. On such a memorable day, let's take in the lovely night.

"We are contrasting two really different teams. While many of our players have never done it, one with extensive experience in [winning titles] is one we have. To maximize this opportunity, we want to use the inward rage and fury we possess. - listen to Mikel's entire news conference prior to the game

"Of course it's essential because we can grab the points and the best team so far can't," said Guardiola. However, we must first travel to Nottingham Forest and the Champions League.

"Of course it's significant," said Guardiola, "because we can take the points and the best team to date can't. But after that, we have six away games including a trip to Nottingham Forest and the Champions League.

I believe that a lot of things are possible. The objective is that tomorrow will enable us to participate in the last eight to ten games. All of the contenders have numerous difficult games both at home and away.
