The night of September 17th, 2022will forever remain etched in the memories of Manchester City and Wolves fans alike.

In a clash between two evenly matched sides, the hosts suffered a 3-0 defeat to their rivals from the northwest. Jack Grealish opened the scoring in the first minute, with Erling Haaland adding a second 16 minutes later. Phil Foden then sealed the victory for City with a third goal in the 69th minute.

Before the match, City had been five points behind Arsenal at the top of the table, but the victory put them level with their north London rivals on points. The result had far-reaching implications, with City now having to win their must-win game against Arsenal to keep their title hopes alive.

The match had barely started when City pounced on the Wolves defense and Grealish opened the scoring in the first minute. The hosts had no answer to City's quick passing and movement, and their situation was made worse when Nathan Collins was sent off for a dangerous challenge on Grealish in the 33rd minute. However, Wolves did not let their numerical disadvantage stop them from pushing for an equalizer.

Matheus Nunes and Pedro Neto both went close, but it was not to be and City seized their chance to extend their lead when De Bruyne provided the assist for Haaland's second goal of the night. The Norwegian international had become the first player in Premier League history to score in each of his first four away games. Foden then sealed the victory with a fine finish from De Bruyne's assist. The result was a bitter pill for Wolves to swallow, with City having thrown away their chance to lead the table on the final day. Nevertheless, it was a memorable night for both sides, with Grealish and Haaland writing their names into the record books.
